Position Title: Internal Auditors (IA)

Scope & Objectives

Internal auditing is an impartial, objective assurance and consulting activity that seeks to provide value and enhance an organization's operations. It assists an organization in meeting its goals by implementing a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the efficacy of risk management, control, and governance procedures.
Internal auditing is an independent function formed by an organization's management to assess its internal control systems as a service. The scope of an internal audit includes unlimited access to all records and assets deemed essential throughout the audit. The basic objectives of an internal auditor are:
Conduct an objective review of the organization's business procedures
Evaluate the efficacy of existing risk management procedures.
Prevent fraud and theft of the organization's assets.
Ensure that the organization complies with applicable laws and statutes.
Make recommendations for improving internal controls and governance processes.

Independence of the role.
The job lacks executive authority and is not responsible for system development, implementation, or operationalization. However, his/her counsel may be solicited by the ED or Chairperson on risk management, control, governance, or any other related issues.
Major Responsibilities:
The work done by the IA can be classified into three categories:
Pre and Post Audit Pre- and post-audit: The IA is responsible for testing, evaluating, and analyzing management's internal control system, safeguarding organizational assets, and ensuring the correctness of financial records. Furthermore, IA will analyze processes to ensure compliance with all Organization policies and procedures, and offer recommendations to improve operational efficiency as appropriate.
IA will perform periodic audits of all field offices throughout the year to review accounting and administrative records and transactions. In this context, IA will draft a quarterly plan and share it with the Executive Director and AFC two weeks before the start of each quarter.
IA shall provide, in collaboration with the Head of Finance Department and the AFC, the general audit plan for review.

Determine the correctness and validity of financial statements and transactions as required by International Auditing Standards.
Evaluate the financial and operational procedures to ensure that internal controls are adequate and effective, and give recommendations for improvement.
Verify the presence of Organization assets and confirm that they are effectively protected against loss.
Examine and assess if the Organization's policies and procedures are being respected and followed.
Assess compliance and conformance with applicable government laws and regulations.
Evaluate the organization's electronic information and data processing system and review important changes to guarantee the presence of essential controls.
Review specific processing systems such as grant reception, payroll, procurement, and so on.
Assess the organization's compliance with fund-use criteria and restrictions.

2. Risk Management.
The IA will carry out the risk management procedure in the following manner.
Risk assessment. Carry out risk assessment at the beginning of the year and discuss the findings with management.
Make recommendations to management for managing and mitigating the risk.


3. Special Requests.
The IA must set aside a specific amount of time to undertake audits, particularly those requested by the Executive Director/Chairperson/Audit & Finance Committee, as long as such requests do not jeopardize the IA's objectivity or independence, or the completion of the approved audits. These requests might be of a variety of types, including rules and procedures, processes and controls, fraud, asset loss, breach of contract, and so on.

4. Special Investigations.
The IA will assist the audit committee in assessing loss impact and control shortcomings. The committee will recommend corrective measures to the BoG/management to prevent future occurrences. If the ED requests it, the IA will serve on an investigation committee to look into any financial or administrative irregularities.
Standards and Ethics
IA work will be completed with due care and in compliance with applicable professional auditing standards. IA would comply with the International Auditing Standards and the Code of Ethics issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP).

Professional Development
The IA will be accountable for continuing his or her education in order to advance professionally and personally. S/He will ensure that all Internal Audit staff have the necessary training to perform their duties effectively.

Education and Skill:
5 to 7 years of relevant experience at a local or international NGO.
ACCA/ACA/CA/MBA/M.COM/B.COM Finalist or equivalent professional qualification.
